Amy Echstenkamper, LCSW

Welcome! If you are here, it’s most likely because you’ve taken the brave first step of prioritizing your mental health. People seek therapeutic help for all kinds of reasons, but usually do so when they feel they’ve reached some kind of personal limit or impasse. If this is you, you may feel like the things that once worked to keep you functioning at healthy levels are no longer effective. Maybe you don’t recognize yourself or the current iteration of your life. You might be struggling with painful memories that you were once able to avoid but have recently become more intrusive or impactful.

This process can be a difficult and scary one, but I sincerely believe it can also be one of the most essential and rewarding. I am so glad you’re beginning this journey, and I would feel honored to travel this road with you.

My approach emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and creativity. I use a number of modalities, including trauma-focused CBT, narrative therapy, and mindfulness techniques, to help you work through past experiences, realize your own autonomy and resilience, and connect you with the most authentic version of yourself. Trauma work is my passion, and I have significant experience dealing with sexual trauma, domestic violence, and childhood neglect and abuse. I also focus on the trauma that uniquely impacts minority groups and the queer community, specifically addressing the effects of sociopolitical oppression, religious trauma, and social/familial rejection or estrangement. I have also worked with the active-duty military for the past six years, so I provide unique insight into how time in service can shape an individual’s psyche and self-concept.

If it seems like you would benefit from working with me, please reach out at the listed contact information for a free consultation.
